We are pleased to present the third edition of our Sustainability Report, offering a transparent overview of the Spliethoff Group’s ongoing initiatives to reduce our environmental footprint across global maritime operations. The Spliethoff Group subscribes to the notion that care for the environment and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions of shipping is a shared responsibility of all industry stakeholders.

This report outlines the sustainability program of the Spliethoff Group, reinforcing our long-term commitment to responsible business practices and environmental stewardship, against the background of the challenges we face in achieving our own set of ambitious but realistic goals.

The Spliethoff Group takes a fact-driven approach to reducing its footprint by defining the limitations of the operational reality of global shipping, running tramping services and executing projects at destinations that include the far corners of the world.

Innovative work is being done to reduce emissions on our current fleet, both technically and operationally. We will continue to invest in fuel-saving measures and the incorporation of sustainable sailing principals in our operations. Individually, these investments realise relatively small but essential improvements, making an important contribution to the overall footprint of the fleet when added together.

Fleet renewal is another key lever in achieving our decarbonisation targets and as a result sustainability is central to the Spliethoff Group new building program. Although fleet renewal is a time-consuming process, relatively substantial strides towards footprint reduction can be made here.

Alternative fuels will bridge the gap between target and actual emission levels after technical, operational and fleet renewal impact. Central to our short to mid-term approach here is the launch of “Spliethoff Group Green”- our low-carbon shipping solution that enables customers to transport cargo sustainably through the use of sustainable biofuels.

The Spliethoff Group is positive that together with her customers, the set decarbonisation targets are realistically achievable through the program of measures detailed in this report and committed to achieving them together.
